What is Facial Reflexology?

Facial Reflexology addresses the individual holistically – increasing levels of relaxation and thereby improving the client’s sense of well-being in all aspects: emotional, physical, mental and energetic. Every session commences with the stimulation of facial acupuncture points to activate the nerves, lymphatic and blood circulation of the face. Using thumbs, fingers and palm pressure to certain areas of the face this will disperse excess energy (jitsu) and replenish depleted energy (kyo) to re-establish smooth energy flow and encourage the body to heal naturally, whilst maintaining the body’s natural equilibrium.

Where does it originate from?

A pictograph dated 2500BC, found in the tomb of Ankmahor, an influential Egyptian physician indicates that a form of reflexology was practised in ancient Egypt. The treatment combines the wisdom and knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine (acupuncture meridians & points), Vietnamese nerve points relating to parts of the body, neuro-anatomy and a primitive body maps method used by the South American Indians (Mapuche tribe)

What are the benefits?

Facial reflexology is used to improve function in all areas of the body. It eases tension and enhances well-being.  It is most useful in the treatment of stress related symptoms.  Facial reflexology does not claim to cure; however, a notable improvement in the quality of life for people living with many conditions, whether acute, chronic or minor has been reported.

Health Beyond Surgery

All 31 acupuncture points on the face are massaged with fingertips stimulating blood circulation and energising the meridians.  In addition there are 564 neurological points on the face, a combination of which can direct impulses via the central nervous system to specific organs, to improve blood circulation, balance the body’s metabolic chemistry and harmonise the emotional state.

The therapy works through the release of endorphins and neurotransmitters addressing both the cause and symptom. By working precise points on the face the stimulation creates an impulse which is transmitted to the brain.  Stimulation also encourages the release of serotonin, a chemical that helps maintain a feeling of contentment, and which controls sleep, calms anxiety, and relieves depression.  Insufficient levels of serotonin are believed to be the cause of depression and can result in apathy, fear, feeling worthless, lethargy and fatigue.
