Working together, we will focus on:
-
Finding impactful, sustainable and life-improving changes to your diet.
-
Enriching your diet with a variety of exciting flavours, colours and smells. Researchers have found that when participants ate a meal high in fat and carbohydrates with six grams of a spice blend added, the participants had lower inflammation markers compared to when they ate a meal with less or no spices. Give yourself the opportunity to try these different spices from around the world like basil, bay leaf, black pepper, cinnamon, coriander, cumin, ginger, oregano, parsley, red pepper, rosemary, thyme and turmeric.
-
Encouraging your relationship with nutritious food.
-
Improving and regulating your blood sugar level, this is really important to reduce your risk of infections after surgery.

-
Exploring unhelpful thinking patterns and replacing them with more effective ones.
-
Assessing triggers and hurdles and evaluate coping mechanisms
-
Fully understanding how mental and physical stress can negatively influence your mood and recovery.
-
Removing as much of the anxiety and uncertainty as possible in advance of the surgery by utilising coping mechanisms to manage your anxiety or pain.
-
How to tune in and communicate with your body’s requirements
-
Activities that improve your strength and balance because your heart and lungs have to work harder after an operation to help the body to heal. This will also reduce pain in your joints.
-
Losing weight (if required), this can help reduce the stress on your heart and lungs. It will also lower your blood pressure. Sometimes operations may be delayed if your blood pressure is too high.

Sleep
-
Optimising your sleep cycle in line with the Chinese body clock by making the most of your energy and working with your body organs by using them when they're at their peak during certain times of the day.
Changing your relationship with time and managing expectations
-
Getting you out of bed and slowly starting to move, as soon as your operation allows – those who do this get home sooner and recover quicker.
-
Balancing a demanding career with family life and helping you feel more in control of your own health and well-being.
-
Empowering you to be independent and less reliant on others to manage your health.
-
Long-term, sustainable lifestyle recommendations to support your future health.

Building resilience and being able to bounce back from surgery is a complex set of skills and strengths. I will work alongside your medical team to support you. You may have to consult your GP, or healthcare worker, and ask for them to monitor certain aspects of your health (as improvement may occur as a result of the diet and lifestyle changes you implement). I will not ask you to stop any medication, or stop any treatment protocol, although if your symptoms improve your GP may advise this.
